Tomorrow afternoon I'm hosting a table for the Catholic Daughters of America, a religious organization I am a member of. It is a fund raiser for 4 pregnant parenting homes in both Salem and Medford. These homes provide a safe environment for young women and their babies, provide them with parenting classes and job skills. I invited a few friends to join me for a fun afternoon.
I volunteered to bake as well, so I baked up some Oatmeal-Cranberry Bars and Brownies. Tomorrow I'll start on the Apricot Cream Scones, Hazelnut Scones, Cranberry Scones and White Chocolate Scones. If I have time I'll make my famous Shortbread Cookie Bars that everyone loves. What's not to love -- it has tons of butter, sugar and flour!
So as I sit here eating two of the Oatmeal-Cranberry bars, I'm thinking about all the favorite recipes my mom makes. I think about all those recipes that could be lost should my mother pass away. So I've been compiling them and hope to have them all together someday.
So your scrapbook challenge for the upcoming week. Make a yummy meal, photograph it and journal about what you love about this dish. Does it bring back memories of "small-kid time?" Does the aroma fill your house and does it make you think of anyone special? While you're at it, make sure you list the recipe on your scrapbook page. Why not record it and have it handy for your kids someday?
