Or Happy Thanksgiving in English!
I celebrated turkey day early, actually. We had a family dinner on Sunday since Sheena wasn't going to be around on Thanksgiving day. The hubby brined the turkey again in our special honey brine and it was the best ever. If you aren't brining your turkey, you are missing out on the juiciest turkey you'll ever eat. Today we'll be having dinner at Aunty P and Uncle Tom's house.
So much to be thankful for. Where does one start? Well, I suppose you could start with family and your health. I actually had time to watch the news last night and the channel I was watching was showing their "Wednesday's child" spot. It's a spot where they highlight a child who is in a foster home waiting to be adopted. This young girl was 12 and I actually felt tears start to run down my face and really felt for her. How sad it would be not to feel the love of a family, especially on this special day of the year.
Okay, so it brings me to your challenge of the week, although it is a little late. What family memories does the Thanksgiving holiday conjure up? Do you think of the food (with me, it's always food), the football games, the Macy's parade or traveling to a relative's home? For me, since we are so far away from our families in Hawaii, it makes me think of all the traditional "Hawaii" food we'd have. The sushi, a noodle dish, the raw fish and the local fruit juices. It's just not the same, even though I can find all those things here and prepare them. It's something about the chaotic family I have, my crazy aunt's laugh, my dad's dry humor and my mom's home cooking. We miss our families and friends. I actually feel sad as I know Emma may never experience the island way of growing up. It is hard to think of what would seem normal to me, would be so foreign to her. So whatever you think of today, scrapbook a page. If you don't have time to put together a layout, take time to write some text for journaling for your "someday" page. It is so vital for us to document all the things that are important to us. In this age of digital media and email, all of these stories will be lost if someone (hint: YOU) don't write them down!
Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
