Technique of the Week

Okay, no comments on the last time I blogged! It has been busy both at home and at work. I just finished a black tie event with the hospital foundation that I work for so it has been keeping me going non stop! On the homefront, we've been just as busy. I'm in the midst of planning my 20th high school reunion from way out here in Oregon. It has not been very fun trying to find a place to hold it in Hawaii (The Big Island). Since the October earthquake, the bigger venues are either being repaired or will not be available at all. So I've had a heck of a time finding somewhere to either rent or have the event catered. Luckily I found a restaurant that is able to accommodate me and we are having an all you can eat seafood/prime rib buffet for $35! That's a steal if you know Hawaii prices. Then my laptop decided to crash so we had to reboot and reinstall everything. Wouldn't you know it, I can't get my classmates database to load on the laptop now and can't even access it through the the CD either. So now I have to rebuild my database and email folks to send their contact info to me AGAIN. Ugh. Just lovin' that darn technology.

Anyway, here is your technique of the week. Have you tried this one before? Using our special Stampin' UP! watercolor crayons, color onto the rubber stamp, spritz it with water and stamp onto a matte (not glossy!) paper. You will get a beautiful watercolored effect with virtually no effort at all! I love the look -- and it doesn't take much time at all.

Here is your scrapbook challenge -- yeah, so what if it's late (Friday instead of Monday!). Take a picture of something that reminds you of your childhood. If you can't take a picture, find something like a magazine ad or a wrapper (if it's a food item). Look at the item intently. Now close your eyes and let it take you back to your childhood. How do you feel? All fuzzy and warm? Fear welling up? Can you smell the item (if it's a food item) and what memories does it bring back? Now pick up a journaling pen and write what you are feeling, thinking and imagining. I bet you will find that it's the smallest things that trigger good or bad memories! Write back and share what your item was and how you felt. I'd love to hear your story!

I mentioned my black tie event earlier. I had to share this one absolutely hilarious thing that we did last week. After eating a 3 course dinner ($150 per person!), my hubby decided he was STILL hungry. So we left the event and headed for....Taco Bell and McDonald's. How SAD is that? What is funnier is this...picture a green minivan, two people dressed up (hubby in a TUX) and driving up to a fast food joint. The Taco Bell server did a double take as we drove up to pick up the food. The Mickey D's server didn't even bat an eye. Maybe she gets people dressed like us all the time?

Have a great weekend!

Kudos, girlfriend, for negotiating that kick butt buffet deal for your upcoming reunion. $35 per head is almost unheard of here!
If you need any help getting data entered into a database, let me know. I would be more than happy to do it just for fun (yes, I'm sick, I find data entry fun...).
As for the scrapbook challenge - I'm thinking of taking a picture of a wooden spoon tucked between the cushions of the couch. My mom could always tell when I did something bad when I was little because I would hide all the wooden spoons. And no - she didn't really use them on me, but she would brandish those suckers like nobody's business. The swooshing sound of wood being whipped through the air still gives me the willies!!
