I just love Ali Edwards (Creating Keepsakes mag) and her thought process on photo taking and scrapbooking your daily life events. We all take photos of the usual stuff --- birthdays, holidays, travels, vacations, etc. But do you take every day photos? You know the ones I'm talking about -- the ones of your messy living room where the toddler has taken out ALL of her toys. The closet filled with her colorful clothes and shoes. The sleeping toddler in wierd locations (under the table, in a doorway, in a closet). These are the cute photos we don't remember to take. But they are evidence of our every day lives. You can bet it'll be interesting years from now when the generations after you pick up your scrapbook or your photo albums to see what life was like for you! So my challenge for you this coming week is to take photos of your life. Not just of the kids. Of your favorite room of the house. Of the things you like to eat. Or maybe even your beloved pets. Take photos of yourself! Yes, we are always behind the camera, so this week, have someone else take a photo of YOU. Make notes of your "day in the life of" and use it for journaling on a scrapbook page. Post a comment and tell me what you did! Even if you don't get to put it all on a scrapbook page, put it together in one place so that you'll have it all ready to scrapbook when time permits!
People always tell me I'm creative. Ha! If they only knew! Anyone can be creative! All it takes is practice, practice, practice! Like today, I went to a birthday party for a sweet little boy, Carter. He is so darn adorable. His mommy said that I make such great cards and that I'm so creative. Nah....! I can honestly say that I usually "lift" the design from something I've seen. Once in a great while I will create something from scratch, but in my busy life, that's a rarity! It's OK to "scraplift" a design you see. I never really "copy" it exactly, I make it my own. I use different color schemes and patterned paper, stamps or whatever I seem to find in my "stash". Once you "play and practice" you really get good at putting things together. If only Carter's mommy knew I had put the card together in 5 minutes by just shuffling around looking for stuff! :) So if you want to be good at it, you have to practice, practice, practice! This coming from someone who's been stamping for 20 years and scrapbooking for half of that time!
An exciting business venture has come my way that I can't mention here on the blog just yet. Still working out the details, and if it is meant to be, I'll be revealing it sometime this week. So stay tuned!
The sorting of my craft "stash" is not going as well as I thought. I seem to want to still keep all of it. I don't know why -- maybe because I think I'll "need" it for something, someday! Anyway, I am trying to be ruthless thinking that if I can sell some stuff on Ebay, I can get more NEW stuff. I'm sure Harry wouldn't agree with this technique, but you won't say a word, now will you?!
I'm coming up with some new classes this month (better get moving on it since it's already September 3rd) and hopefully I will have them posted on my Stampin' UP! website soon as well as an email to follow. And I STILL haven't had time to upload those new cards I created. I'll try to get to it this week!
Anyway, remember to be a "life artist" as Ali Edwards would say. Make it a goal this week to take those everyday photos!
Fondest aloha,
J-
